Huawei Mate 9 and Xiaomi Mi Note 2- Design and screen

We are facing two terminals aimed at the high end, and that shows in its design. The Huawei Mate 9 offers a design very similar to that of its predecessor, with aluminum as the main protagonist, both in the back and sides of the terminal. Precisely in the back part we find the striking double lens of the camera, placed vertically, and just below the fingerprint reader. Also emphasize the two strips located in both ends, superior and inferior, that are of a different color to the rest of the body of the terminal.

At the front, 2.5D glass has been used to lightly bend the display bezels, thus controlling the overall size of the terminal. The complete dimensions of the Huawei Mate 9 are 156.9 x 78.9 x 7.9 millimeters, weighing 190 grams. The Huawei Mate 9 will be available in a wide range of colors, with 6 different shades to choose from: Mocha Brown, Black, Ceramic White, Gold Champagne, Moonlight silver and Space gray.

The Xiaomi My Note 2 also offers a design that clearly shows that this is a high-end terminal. With a design that reminds us a lot of a Korean terminal, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 uses the glass in both the back and the front. Curved glass has been used on both sides, thus achieving a better grip while maintaining the full size of the controlled terminal. The back offers a very “clean” design, with only the camera lens at the top and the brand logo at the bottom.

At the front we find an OLED panel that curves at the sides, plus a large start button with an oval design that hides inside the fingerprint reader. The complete dimensions of the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 are 156.2 x 77.3 x 7.6 millimeters, weighing 166 grams. The terminal can be found in two colors: Piano Black (black) and Glacier Silver (silver).

But the main protagonist of the design of both terminals is the screen. The Huawei Mate 9 offers a 5.9-inch screen with Full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. The screen has a density of 373 dpi and a contrast of 1,500: 1, with an NTSC color saturation of 96%.

In Xiaomi have used a OLED panel of 5.7 inches and Full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. A panel that has not yet been given too much official data, but the company says it reaches a 100,000: 1 contrast.

Both companies are clear that the camera has to live up to the other features, especially when talking about high end terminals. The Huawei Mate 9 incorporates an improved version of the dual camera system developed together with the Leica company which was released on the Huawei P9. That is, we have an RGB color lens that incorporates a 12-megapixel sensor; And a monochrome lens that uses a 20-megapixel sensor. Both sensors have an f / 2.2 aperture. Also included are an optical image stabilization system, a 4-in-1 hybrid autofocus system (laser focus, phase detection focus, depth focus and contrast focus) and a 2x optical zoom. To improve the night photography we have a dual tone LED flash. As for video, the camera of the Huawei Mate 9 is capable of recording video with 4K resolution using the H.265 video codec.

On the front of the Huawei Mate 9 we find a lens with 8-megapixel sensor and aperture f / 1.9. The company has also included an autofocus system so that our selfies do not get moved, in addition to their usual beauty modes at the software level.

The Xiaomi My Note 2 has not joined the fashion of including a double camera, but that does not mean it is not up to par. The Chinese company has used an IMX 318 sensor from Sony that offers a resolution of 22.56 megapixels, with an aperture f / 2.0. The camera incorporates a system of hybrid approach of detection by phase and laser, in addition to electronic stabilization of the image, even in the 4K video. To achieve this, the bed module includes a 3-axis gyroscope that compensates for the movement in real time. This lens is accompanied by a double tone flash.

On the front we have an IMX268 sensor, also from Sony, which offers 8 megapixel resolution, f / 2.0 aperture and autofocus system.

At the multimedia level, the Huawei Mate 9 incorporates a stereo speaker system and four noise-canceling microphones for crystal clear sound recordings. The Xiaomi My Note 2, however, incorporates an AQSTIC audio processor that is capable of working with 192kHz / 24bit high-resolution audio.

Huawei Mate 9 and Xiaomi Mi Note 2- Processor, memory and operating system

We have two of the most recent terminals on the market face to face, which means that inside you will find the latest hardware. And so it is. The Huawei Mate 9 incorporates the latest and most advanced processor of the company, the Kirin 960. A chip that offers eight cores, four of them are Cortex-A73 running at 2.4 GHz and the other four are Cortex-A53 running at 1 , 8 GHz, an i6 co-processor and a Mali-G71 GPU with eight cores. Xiaomi, however, has chosen to include the latest Qualcomm processor. The Xiaomi My Note 2 incorporates a Snapdragon 821 processor. A chipset that offers four cores running at 2.35 GHz and an Adreno 530 GPU running at 650 MHz. In its Global version, this powerful processor comes accompanied by 6 GB of RAM and An internal storage capacity of 128 GB.

Two sets that will be able to move any application with ease and without further complication, even the most demanding games. The operating system will also work perfectly. And speaking of operating system, Huawei has already confirmed that the Huawei Mate 9 will arrive with Android 7.0 Nougat as standard. Accompanying the new version of the Google system we will have the EMUI 5.0 personalization layer of Huawei. As for the Xiaomi terminal, the company has not yet confirmed the version of Android that will incorporate, although we do know that it will arrive with the customization layer MIUI 8.

Huawei Mate 9 and Xiaomi Mi Note 2- Connectivity and autonomy

As we said before, we are facing two newly introduced terminals, so we will have the latest connectivity. The Huawei Mate 9 offers compatibility with 4G LTE networks of category 12, Bluetooth 4.2, WiFi 802.11a / b / g / n / ac with support of WiFi Direct, NFC and USB connector Type-C. The Xiaomi Mi Note 2 has 4G + connectivity, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC and WiFi 802.11ad, making it one of the first terminals to incorporate the WiFi AD standard. As for the connector, it also opts for USB Type-C.

Regarding the autonomy, the size of the screen of both terminals requires a large battery to be able to stand all day without going through the charger. The Huawei Mate 9 opts for a 4,000-milliampere battery, which comes with a new fast charging system the company has called SuperCharge. According to the company itself, this system can charge 50% faster than the Mate 8 and only needs 30 minutes of load to add 58% of the battery, which ensures an entire day of use.

The Xiaomi My Note 2 incorporates a 4,070mAh battery and Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 quick charging system. According to the company, this system is capable of charging up to 80% of the battery in just 35 minutes.

We are faced with two large terminals, no doubt about it. And not only for the screen, also for the rest of the components that we find inside. As for design, each company has opted for a different solution. While Huawei still maintains a totally metallic design, Xiaomi has chosen to use the glass in both the front and back of the terminal.

Both companies have decided to keep the Full HD resolution on the screens, although Xiaomi has opted, for the first time, for an OLED panel, which gives a greater contrast to the panel used by Huawei. The Mate 9 screen, however, is somewhat larger than the Xiaomi Mi Note 2.

In terms of power, both terminals have plenty. Huawei has chosen to continue developing its own Kirin chip and Xiaomi has opted to use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821. Both are in the lead as far as power is concerned, and both come with a lot of RAM.

Perhaps in the photographic section is where the greatest difference we find between these two terminals. The Huawei Mate 9 opts for the double camera, while the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 incorporates a powerful sensor manufactured by Sony. What is clear is that both will offer us a very good photographic experience.
